The Instant-View® EDDP urine drug test is a rapid, lateral flow in-vitro diagnostic test designed to detect the metabolite of methadone in human urine at a cut -off level of 1000 ng/mL. This analyte is currently available for export only.

Methadone is a synthetic opiate agonist that is often used in detoxification programs as an oral substitute for heroin or other morphine-like drugs to suppress withdrawal symptoms and/or to maintain chronic replacing heroin addicts.  The benefit of measuring EDDP instead of methadone is that individuals in methadone programs sometimes divert their methadone into the illicit drug market and then spike their urine sample with a small quantity of methadone to cover the diversion.  Their urine sample may test positive for methadone but would not test positive for EDDP, since the drug was not ingested and therefore never metabolized.  The Instant-View® EDDP urine drug test is intended for healthcare professional use and provides preliminary screening results. It is recommended that a more specific chemical method (i.e. GC/MS) be used in order to obtain a confirmed analytical result.
